Welford Primary School Admissions

Welford Primary School is a two form entry school located in Handsworth, Birmingham.

As a Local Authority school, the Local Authority manages the school's admissions process for Reception and Year 7 applications.

 

Places in Reception to Year 6 classes are offered in the following order of priority:

  • Looked after or previously looked after children.
  • Brothers or sisters (as defined by the Local Authority) of children at Welford Primary School in the year of admission.
  • Those who live nearest the school

Admission into Nursery

Welford Primary School has its own Nursery class.

There are 60 full time equivalent places in the Nursery for children between the ages of 3 and 4 years old.

As a maintained primary school with a Nursery class, we offer places to all children on a part-time basis.

Once completed, please return the registration form to the main school office, along with your child's birth certificate/passport and a proof of address. 

 

Admission into Reception

There are 60 full time places in Reception (2 classes of 30).

Parents can apply for a place in the Autumn of the year before their child turns 4.

Parents must register their children with the Local Authority and indicate Welford as their first choice primary school. Reception class places are offered in April each year.

Applications close on 15 January 2025 at 11:59 pm.

Late applications can be made from 9:00am on 16 January 2025.

Applications received after 15 January 2025 will be classed as late applications and will not be processed until after the offer of places on 16 April 2025.

If you have not made a late application by 11:59pm on 31 July 2025, you must apply directly to your preferred schools using the in-year application form.

 

Admission into Years 1 to 6

 

If your child is between the ages of 4 and 11 you can apply for her/him to be admitted to the school. 

Your child’s name will be placed on the school’s official waiting list which is shared with the Local Authority.

When there is a place available she/he will go into a class suitable to her/his age. 

Places are limited to 30 in each class (60 children in each year group).

Children are admitted into years 1 to 6 when there is a vacancy in their appropriate year group.
