Currently, children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 all receive free school meals, these are paid by government funding. This provision is called Universal Free School Meals or UFSM, and is a different form of funding to pupil premium. If your child is in reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and you are eligible for free school meals funding you can still apply.
How do we use pupil premium funding?
The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
School receive £1,455 per pupil in receipt of pupil premium funding. This additional funding allows us to provide an even better education for your child through the purchase of additional resources, staff to support, reduced costs to educational visits or residential, attendance support strategies and after school clubs.
Mrs Bradbury our Deputy Headteacher ensures that our use of pupil premium is in line with the Government guidance and uses data analysis, school improvement priorities and pupil progress information to ensure that strategies we use are relevant and evidenced based to give our disadvantaged children the best educational experiences and enhance their academic outcomes and progress.
Each year we are required to produce a pupil premium strategy by 31st December to demonstrate how we are utilising the allocated pupil premium funding to support our disadvantaged children, and the impact this has upon children’s outcomes and progress.
